A test used as a UKVI SELT must be taken at an approved test centre under secure conditions. Bring the accepted identity document specified in your booking, make sure the name matches exactly and follow the arrival instructions in your confirmation.
Do not book an Online test for a UKVI route that requires a SELT. Use the correct Academic SELT, General SELT or International ESOL SELT at an approved test centre. Standard Online Academic is a separate non-SELT product for institutions that accept it.
Check the current equipment, ID and arrival requirements for your selected test before booking.
Ask about accessibility or booking arrangementsScoring depends on the SELT product. International ESOL SELT uses the chosen A1, A2 or B1 Speaking & Listening level, while Academic SELT and General SELT use multilevel scores. Your Test Report includes the Unique Reference Number (URN) used for the application.
Confirm the required overall score and any skill minimums with your receiving organisation.
Family visas — A1 Speaking & Listening for entry and first extension; A2 Speaking & Listening for further leave.
Settlement (ILR) & Citizenship — B1 Speaking & Listening, paired with Life in the UK.
Skilled Worker and Health & Care Worker — new applications under the rules in force from 8 January 2026 normally require B2 across all four skills; some earlier-permission extensions can remain at B1.
Student routes requiring a SELT — Academic SELT across all four skills at the level specified for the course and route, commonly B1 or B2.
SELT for UKVI is specifically for UK Visas & Immigration. For non-UK destinations use LANGUAGECERT Academic, International ESOL or LTE instead.
